AfterShokz to Shokz: The Name Change and the Product Families

The older AfterShokz name and the current Shokz name belong to the same brand history. The company announced its shorter name in December 2021, along with product-name changes.

The earlier names

Shokz's announcement describes Aeropex becoming OpenRun with a Quick Charge upgrade. It also identifies Xtrainerz as the earlier name for OpenSwim. These connections help explain older names without making every later model identical.

A Syracuse connection

The brand's account describes opening its North American business in Syracuse, New York, before relocating to Austin, Texas. Its current company timeline places the relocation in 2020.

The range continued to branch

The company's history lists OpenFit in 2023, followed by OpenSwim Pro and OpenRun Pro 2 in 2024. Those launches added different listening formats and model features. A shared Shokz label does not establish the same technology, water rating or intended use.

Use history to ask a better question

Start with the exact name on the product. Then compare fit, playback mode and the intended setting. Someone replacing an older headset needs a model comparison as well as a brand-name connection.
