Fog, Fast Moves & a Shake-Up in Greene

Race 2 of the 2026 Southern Tier Cross Country Series brought the field to Greene Lions Club Park for the Dave Panella Memorial. The fog hung around early. The grass was wet. And once the results were sorted out, the leaderboard looked noticeably different from Race 1.

Jakob Again — But Plenty Changed Behind Him

Jakob Getchell did the one thing that did not change from Owego: he finished first overall again. Race 1, first. Race 2, first. That part was simple.

Behind him, things got much more interesting. Matthew Francis Gawors moved from fifth overall and fifth Open Men in Race 1 to second overall and second Open Men in Greene. Benjamin Olson jumped from ninth overall / ninth Open Men to third overall / third Open Men.

The biggest jump of the day: Steven Gorgos went from 49th overall and 33rd Open Men at Owego to fourth overall and fourth Open Men at Dave Panella. That is not a typo. That is a 45-place overall move.

Matt Clare moved from seventh overall to fifth. Stephen Jones climbed from 21st overall to 11th and from 17th Open Men to seventh. Samuel Spero moved from 22nd Open Men to 11th, while Hellcat teammates Graham Barton and Jonathan Barton jumped from 31st and 32nd Open Men to 18th and 19th.

A New Women's Order

Hope Szymaniak moved from second woman at Owego to first Open Woman in Greene. Right behind her came three runners who were not on the Race 1 finish sheet: Megan Gossfeld in second, Angela DiZenzo in third and Malinda Miller in fourth. Christine Reynolds rounded out the top five.

There were a couple of impressively stubborn placements too. Katie Wagner finished seventh Open Women in both races. Cindy Gorgos was 22nd Open Women in both. Same place, completely different morning.

Team Scoring: Five Runners Still Matter

Race 2 was a good reminder of what makes cross country different. Team Confluence had the first two overall finishers with Getchell and Gawors, but only four team finishers total. No fifth runner meant no complete Race 2 team score.

Division Place Team Score
Open Men 1 Bogus City Striders 68
Open Men 2 Hellcat Harriers 75
Open Women 1 Bogus City Striders 50
Open Women 2 Hellcat Harriers 71
Mixed 1 MC-FIT 45

Bogus City Striders swept the Open Men and Open Women team races. MC-FIT won Mixed with Matt Clare, Angela DiZenzo, Stephen Jones, Owen DiZenzo and Allie Jones scoring the five.

Two Races In: The Season Starts to Take Shape

The season standings combine one point for every official team finisher with division placement points. Race 1 has also been corrected so Jakob Getchell and Eric DeHart are Team Confluence.

Season Place Team Race 1 Race 2 Total
1 Bogus City Striders 37 34 71
2 Hellcat Harriers 30 32 62
3 MC-FIT 17 15 32
4 Team Confluence 18 4 22
5 Surly Wabbits 14 4 18
6 Team RWB 3 3 6
7 Clark Street Harriers 2 3 5

Bogus City leaves Greene with a nine-point lead over Hellcat. MC-FIT has now won the Mixed division in both races. Team Confluence has produced some of the fastest individual finishes in the series, while Hellcat continues to pile up finishers and team points. Two races down, and there is already plenty to chase.

Scenes from Race 2

The numbers tell one part of the story. The photos tell the rest: team colors everywhere, muddy legs, smiles that probably should not have existed halfway through a cross-country race, and a few genuinely great finish-line frames.

Hey this is Trevor,
I was bib 1116, listed as 18th in the searchable results (which should be correct), but I was left off the team scoring and results pdf for some reason for Hellcat Harriers. No worries, but wanted to let you know as it effects scoring.
Thanks!
