Getting Back Up: Healthy Kids Binghamton Race 3
Healthy Kids Running Series • Binghamton • Fall 2026
Race 3 / Week 3 brought smiles, grit, giggles and plenty of heart to Otsiningo Park on October 4. Kids raced hard, cheered one another on, helped fellow runners, and turned another fall afternoon in Binghamton into the kind of youth running day families remember.
Kids Running Together in Binghamton
Healthy Kids Running Series is at its best when the racing feels both competitive and welcoming. Race 3 had plenty of both: determined starts, wide smiles, spontaneous giggles and young runners helping one another before, during and after their races. Some kids were chasing a finish, some were chasing friends, and others were simply enjoying the chance to run together across the grass at Otsiningo Park.

Race Moment
Getting Back Up
After last week's false start in the 4–5 girls race, Kristy had the whole group practice their start a couple of times before Race 3. It was pretty adorable—and this time, they were ready.
Then the race started.
My four-year-old, Eliana, got tangled up with another runner just after the start, went down hard and another runner had to leap over her. You could hear the collective “oooh” from everyone watching.
She was shaken up. She was crying. But she got back up.
And then she ran to the finish.
As her dad, that may have been my favorite result of the day. Not because of a place or a time, but because at four years old she figured out, in that little moment, that falling down didn't mean the race was over. She still had something she wanted to finish—and she finished it.
Last week: the false start. This week: her first racing pileup. She's certainly getting the full racing experience early.
