Our take

The Ghost 18 GTX puts a waterproof upper on Brooks' familiar neutral Ghost road platform. We would consider it for sidewalk runs, damp walking commutes, and wet-weather miles when staying on paved surfaces. It has a different upper feel and weight than the standard Ghost 18.

On wet days, try the Black River Trail's pavement or neighborhood loops. If your route involves roots, slippery rocks or muddy single-track, a true trail shoe remains the better match.

Fit before category

Fit & feel

GORE-TEX construction changes how the upper feels and breathes. Check your preferred width with the socks you plan to wear in wet weather. The heel should remain secure and the toe box should not compress your toes. Compare the waterproof Ghost with the regular model before deciding. Water resistance does not solve an unsuitable fit.

We fit shoes against your foot shape, width, comfort, movement and intended use—not just a label like “neutral” or “stability.”

How the shoe works

Technology & ride

The Ghost 18 GTX combines DNA LOFT v3 cushioning with a GORE-TEX waterproof upper and wet-weather road grip. It is a pavement-focused running shoe, not a substitute for technical trail traction.
