Cold, Rainy, and Full of Heart: Healthy Kids Binghamton Week 2 Photo Gallery at Broome County Parks
Healthy Kids Running Series Binghamton Week 2 at Otsiningo Park

Week 2 of Healthy Kids Running Series in Binghamton looked a lot different than opening day, but it still delivered the kind of memorable moments that make youth running so special.
Healthy Kids Binghamton returned to Otsiningo Park in cold, wet, rainy conditions that felt very familiar for Binghamton and Upstate New York in the spring. The turnout was a little smaller this week, which was understandable given the weather, but the kids who showed up brought toughness, enthusiasm, and some unforgettable race-day moments. Even on a day when the conditions were less than ideal, Healthy Kids Running Series - Binghamton | Photos, Races, & Results once again showed why this series matters so much to families in our community.
Week 2 Brought Real Binghamton Weather
If you live in Binghamton or anywhere in Upstate New York, you know spring does not always mean sunshine and comfortable temperatures. Week 2 brought cold rain, damp conditions, and the kind of weather that tests everyone a little bit. Still, families came out, kids lined up, and the series rolled on.
Not every race day is going to be picture-perfect, and in some ways that is part of the value of events like this. Children get the chance to keep going, adapt, laugh through the unexpected, and learn that a rainy day can still be a great day to run. After the energy of Week 1 in Binghamton, Week 2 told a different story, but one that still mattered.

Crazy Hat Day Added Some Fun to the Rain
Even with the gray skies and wet conditions, Crazy Hat Day helped bring some extra personality and fun to the afternoon. It added a playful energy to the event and helped keep the focus where it belongs: making running an enjoyable, welcoming, and memorable experience for kids.
That balance is one of the best things about Healthy Kids Running Series. It gives young runners a chance to compete, but it also gives them space to smile, be themselves, and connect positive memories with movement and community. It is a big reason why past Week 2 Healthy Kids coverage has continued to resonate with families.
Big Splashes and Tough Finishes
Some of the most memorable moments from Week 2 came because of the weather.
A few of the boys charged straight through a large puddle and sent big splashes flying, turning a cold and rainy course into something that looked a little more like an adventure. It was one of those moments that captured the spirit of youth running perfectly. Kids do not always see conditions as a problem. Sometimes they just see something fun to run through.
Another unforgettable moment came in the mile, when one girl lost both of her shoes and a sock but kept going and finished the race anyway. That kind of determination says a lot about her toughness and about the environment Healthy Kids creates. The series gives children a place to challenge themselves, keep moving, and discover what they are capable of even when things do not go as planned.
There was also a dramatic moment in another mile race when the eventual winner lost a shoe, stopped to put it back on, and still managed to chase down the runner ahead of him and win. It was a great example of resilience, focus, and not giving up when something unexpected happens mid-race.

Why Week 2 Still Mattered
Opening day may have had the bigger turnout, but Week 2 had its own kind of value.
It showed that Healthy Kids Running Series is not only about ideal conditions or big numbers. It is about giving kids opportunities to grow, compete, and build confidence in all kinds of circumstances. Sometimes that means racing in sunshine. Sometimes it means racing through puddles, running in the cold, and figuring things out on the fly.
That is part of what makes this series so meaningful in Binghamton. It creates a positive space where children can experience joy, perseverance, and community all at once. On a wet and chilly day at Otsiningo Park, those values were still very much on display.
