Kids racing at Healthy Kids Running Series in Binghamton during a sunny spring day at Otsiningo Park

Healthy Kids Binghamton Kicks Off at Otsiningo Park with Record Energy

The first day of Healthy Kids Running Series in Binghamton was everything a youth running event should be.

Held at Otsiningo Park, the opening day featured wonderful weather, more than 100 kids, incredible volunteer support, and a welcoming atmosphere that made the event feel exciting for both new families and longtime participants. It was the biggest turnout yet for the Binghamton chapter, and the energy throughout the park showed just how meaningful this program has become to the local community.

Healthy Kids Running Series is a five-week youth running program for Pre-K through 8th grade, offering age-appropriate race distances that help children stay active in a fun and supportive setting. The series also includes the Challenger Division, an adaptive race opportunity that helps make participation more inclusive for children with disabilities and special needs.

Wonderful Weather and a Huge Opening Day at Otsiningo Park

Sometimes a race day just feels right from the start, and this one did.

The weather was wonderful for opening day, helping set the tone for a positive afternoon of youth running in Binghamton. Families gathered around the course, kids lined up with excitement and nerves, and the park was full of encouragement from start to finish. Some children were taking part in Healthy Kids for the very first time, while others have been returning to the series since its inception several years ago. That blend of first-timers and longtime participants is part of what makes this event feel so special.

With over 100 kids participating, this was the biggest turnout yet for the Healthy Kids Binghamton chapter.

Great Leadership, Great Volunteers, Great Community

Volunteer support was amazing throughout the day. Events like this only work when people step up to help with setup, check-in, timing, course flow, family questions, finish-line support, and the many small details that make a youth event run smoothly.

Kristy continues to do a great job as one of the faces of the event, bringing energy to the day, starting races, organizing parents, and helping everyone feel welcome. Emily was also instrumental behind the scenes, helping with logistics, timing, and getting the results together. Their roles complement each other well, and together they help make Healthy Kids Binghamton a smooth and positive experience for families.

The series is also supported by sponsors who help make youth running opportunities possible in our community.

One of the Best Moments of the Day

One standout moment captured exactly what Healthy Kids is all about.

During one race, a young girl stopped mid-race to pet a golden retriever, then continued on with a huge smile on her face. It was a perfect reminder that this series is not only about racing. It is also about joy, confidence, community, and letting kids have a positive relationship with movement.

Moments like that are part of why Healthy Kids Running Series resonates with so many families. It gives kids room to try hard, have fun, and be themselves all at once.

Why Healthy Kids Running Series Matters

Healthy Kids is about much more than finish places and weekly results.

It gives children a place to build confidence, develop healthy habits, move their bodies, and experience a supportive race-day environment. For some families, it becomes a spring tradition. For some kids, it is their first organized running event. For others, it is something they return to year after year as they grow.

That kind of consistency matters. It helps children see exercise as something fun, normal, and community-driven. It also gives parents a chance to connect with each other and support their kids in a healthy environment at Otsiningo Park.

Results and Photos Will Be Added As the Series Continues

We do not have full results posted yet, but we wanted to start by highlighting what made this first day so memorable. As the series continues, we will keep adding race photos, weekly recaps, and result updates.
